What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is often performed for cosmetic reasons. With age, it becomes more common to experience droopy or saggy eyelids.

Blepharoplasty can also be performed out of medical necessity. Having droopy eyelids may reduce your peripheral vision, making it much more challenging to see a full field of vision.

At Community Eye Care Specialists, we offer both upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty. These procedures can be performed separately or together. During upper eyelid blepharoplasty, you'll have any excess fat and skin removed that falls over the eye's natural crease. During lower blepharoplasty, lax tissue, and undereye bags are removed while improving the contour of your eyelid.

The incision is placed below the lash line to remove any excess skin, and then the skin gets lifted to create a more flattering and aesthetically pleasing look.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, which is also sometimes called a forehead lift, is a procedure that can treat droopy eyebrows. As you age, the skin and underlying tissues of the forehead can lose elasticity, causing the brows to descend. This not only affects your appearance but can also create a heavy feeling on the upper eyelids.

The brow lift procedure aims to raise the eyebrows, restoring a more alert and youthful appearance to the upper face. This procedure can also help minimize creases that develop across the forehead and between the brows, improving frown lines.

During a brow lift, your oculoplastic surgeon will make small incisions, typically hidden within the hairline, to access and reposition the underlying muscles and tissues. This lifts the brows to a higher position, smoothing forehead wrinkles and reducing the appearance of hooded upper eyelids.

The procedure can be performed using various techniques which minimize scarring and recovery time. A brow lift can open up the eye area, reduce forehead furrows, and create a more refreshed, approachable look.

What is Ptosis Repair?

Ptosis is an eye condition that occurs when the upper eyelid droops or sags over the eye due to weakness in the upper eyelid muscle. In some cases, ptosis may only slightly obscure vision, or it may be more severe, resulting in the pupil being covered.

Those with ptosis may find that the condition limits their ability to see or may block their vision entirely. Both adults and children can suffer from ptosis.

Ptosis repair is a surgical procedure designed to correct this condition. It involves tightening the levator muscle or tendon that lifts the eyelid.

The goal of ptosis repair is to restore normal eyelid position and function, improving both vision and appearance. Recovery time is typically short, with most patients experiencing significant improvement in their field of vision and facial symmetry after the procedure.

What is Ectropion and Entropion Repair?

Ectropion and entropion are eyelid conditions that cause the eyelids to turn in or out. These conditions can cause numerous symptoms that can be uncomfortable and even damaging to your eye health.

Entropion

Entropion is an eye condition that occurs when your eyelid turns in toward your eye. When you have entropion, it causes your eyelashes and skin to rub against your eye, causing irritation and discomfort to the cornea.

Entropion is more common in adults who are 60 and older. Entropion repair typically involves tightening the eyelid and its supporting muscles.

This outpatient surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia and can significantly improve comfort and eye health.

Ectropion

Ectropion is an eye condition that occurs when the eyelid sags or turns out. Although it can affect both lower eyelids, it can also affect the upper eyelid.

Ectropion causes both the conjunctiva and cornea to be exposed, which can cause your eye to become infected, dry, or irritated. The most common form of ectropion is involutional ectropion, which usually occurs due to aging.

Ectropion repair often involves tightening the eyelid tendon and muscles, which aims to restore the normal position of the eyelid, protecting the eye and improving both comfort and appearance.

What is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved treatment to temporarily reduce the appearance of frown lines, forehead lines, and crow's feet in adults. Botox uses a neurotoxin called botulin to help freeze wrinkles and fine lines on your face.

When applied by experts like the team at Community Eye Care Specialists, results look subtle and natural and help you feel like yourself again. Botox is also used as a form of treatment for other conditions.

These may include blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, and to help prevent chronic migraines.

What is Dermal Filler?

At Community Eye Care Specialists, we offer dermal fillers as part of our comprehensive oculoplastic services. These injectable treatments restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours, particularly around the eyes.

Made from hyaluronic acid or other biocompatible materials, fillers are strategically injected beneath the skin to address various signs of aging. When applied around the eye, they can soften tear troughs, reduce fine lines, restore volume to sunken temples, and enhance cheek contours.

Our experienced team uses advanced techniques to ensure natural-looking results that complement your eye area and overall facial harmony. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and typically requires little downtime.

Lesion Removal

At Community Eye Care Specialists, we provide expert removal of various lesions affecting the eye area, including skin tags, moles, cysts, and benign tumors. These growths may cause discomfort, interfere with vision, or be a cosmetic concern.

Our skilled oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Wuebbolt, uses advanced techniques to safely and precisely remove these lesions. This may be with or without pathology, which is based on each patient's needs.

When pathology is recommended, we conduct thorough examinations to ensure comprehensive care. The procedure is typically quick, performed under local anesthesia, and tailored to minimize scarring while preserving delicate eye structures.

Pterygium Removal

Pterygium is a growth of fleshy tissue that usually goes from the conjunctiva onto the cornea. At Community Eye Care Specialists, we provide expert treatment for this condition, which can cause irritation, redness, and, in advanced cases, vision changes.

In most cases, pterygium will only require monitoring and other simple treatments, including lubricating eye drops and protective eyewear. For persistent or significant pterygia that are affecting your confidence, our oculoplastic surgery offers surgical removal using advanced techniques.
